How to Teach Pranayama
The Power of Touch ~ Explore and deepen your understanding of the way in which touch enhances the connections between the ground, the breath and the energizing release of the spine.

MONICA VOSS has been training teachers since 1986. In addition to teaching weekly classes in Toronto, Monica offers teacher training, workshops and retreats in Canada, the U.S., Great Britain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Costa Rica. She co-owns and directs Esther Myers Yoga Studio.
Monica began her yoga studies in 1978 with Esther Myers. She came to yoga with a background in drama and movement and has degrees in English Literature and Education. Monica studied with Vanda Scaravelli, famed Italian yoga teacher and author of Awakening the Spine, from 1986-1994. Moving into the poses using the rhythm of the breath and the support of the ground resonates deeply for her and she continues to draw inspiration from Vanda's and Esther's teaching, from the natural world, from complimentary modalities, and from interaction and dialogue with students and colleagues. Monica's warm-hearted, yet clear and focused teaching style inspires all of us.

Nov. 16-18 Mark Whitwell ~ Your Own Yoga Friday 6:15-9:15pm Sat. 11-1, 2-6 & Sun. 9:30-12:30, 1:30-4:30 at TreeHouse Yoga Center. Insightful and inspiring teacher Mark Whitwell shares basic yogic principles that create personal freedom and make your practice efficient, powerful, and safe. Appropriate for ALL LEVELS Registration
You will learn to: Adapt asanas (postures) to your unique body type, age, and physical condition ~ Practice hatha yoga to merge opposites and achieve union ~ Receive prana, the life force, through focused breathing ~ Combine asana, mantra (chants), yantra (symbols), and pranayama (breathing) to gain the most from a personal practice.

Mark will take us deep into the roots of yoga - to a time when yoga was practiced as a means of acknowledging and celebrating the very source of life. "Truth" is not something external you have to search for; it is present within you as the life that is you. Asana, pranayama, meditation and Life are a seamless process. Stop fighting yourself in a struggle to eliminate thought. Give up your high flying yearnings for "higher" consciousness. Dive into participation with life and awaken your heart as the doorway to experience life's polarities in union. Learn to practice yoga as a whole body prayer. Asana will be a heart-centered, breath-based practice. Mark will lead us in practically applying techniques of asana, pranayama, and bandha that will ultimately allow you to adapt these techniques to your own practice.

Mark Whitwell has enjoyed a relationship of more than twenty years with the teachings of T. Krishnamacharya as well as his son T.K.V. Desikachar. Mark was the editor and contributor to T.K.V. Desikachar's book The Heart of Yoga. Since 1978, Mark has traveled throughout America, Australia and New Zealand teaching these timeless principles and techniques with compassion and clarity.
