Mysore style, or self-practice, is the traditional method of learning Ashtanga vinyasa yoga. Mysore is a city in India where this practice originated. It is still taught there in the traditional way today. Each student moves with their own breath through a sequence of postures at their own pace. Through hands-on adjustments and verbal cues from the teacher they find their way deeper into postures. Small groups allow the teacher to build a relationship with each student and their practice, better enabling the teacher to address the specific needs of each student. Students of all levels practice together, each working in a way that is appropriate for them while enjoying the energy of practicing with a group. Students of all levels are welcome to attend. No experience is necessary, just a willingness to learn.

Christine Wiese took her first Ashtanga yoga class in 2001, and has been enthusiastically practicing ever since. The joy of movement without performance and of meditation in motion keeps her practicing. Gradually devoting more time to this practice has brought many great things into her life, including the opportunity to share this practice in the manner in which it is traditionally taught. Her primary teachers are David Keil and Beryl Bender Birch.

Self-practice is what it's all about.

July 24 Zetta Adkins-Kinney : Tantra: The Science of Personal Transformation 1-4p $35 by July 14, $45 after. Price includes Mala beads! According to most traditions the quest for spiritually is incompatible with the treasures of this world. This 'either or' approach puts us in internal struggle. Tantra teaches that success in both realms is possible when we tap into Shakti, the divine force that is within us. Tantra sadhana (practice) weaves a comprehensive system into the fabric of our lives. The system includes asana, pranayama, mudras, rituals, kundalini, mantra, yantra, mandala, ayurveda, meditation and hundreds of esoteric techniques for personal evolution, freedom and joy.

In this workshop you will be introduced to the ancient practice of Tantra. We will explore what Tantra is - and is not - and be introduced to tantric practices. You will learn how Tantra can enhance and deepen your current yoga practice. We will weave these teachings into sadhana as we do a complete practice using tantric techniques.

As we evolve, we enrich our experience and the way others experience us. This practice connects us with the wonder and beauty of life and spirit. It is a transformational practice that increases strength, mental clarity, peace of mind and renews joy.

It is suggested if you have never practiced yoga before that you attend a few basic classes prior to this workshop. If you don't have a meditation practice it could be helpful for you to sit and watch your breath for 5 min a day to prepare for this workshop.

Zetta came to yoga in 1974 while living in Southern California. Her dedication and passion has lead her to travel and study with many of the world's most respected yoga masters and teachers. She is a graduate of the Florida Institute for Integrated Yoga Studies. The teachers who have influenced her most are, Navtej Johar and Yogarupa (Rod Stryker). Navtej Johar follows the teachings of T.K.V. Desikachar the son of Sri Krishnamacharya who was the father of modern yoga. Yogarupa is an initiate of and teaches an ancient Tantric lineage. This lineage includes Swami Rama - founder of Himalayan institute - and Pandit Rajmani Tigunait PhD. Zetta was initiated by Yogarupa into this ancient lineage in 2008. Yoga is a lifestyle for Zetta; she believes that yoga encourages personal and universal evolution.

Bring your body and your story. I'll take that information, evaluate you using all the information I have stored in my personal database, and come up with a sense of what your neuro-musculoskeletal pattern is surrounding the issue(s) you've brought. At that point we'll do a combination of simple bodywork manipulation, yoga poses, or whatever else seems appropriate to help you understand what's going on and walk away with an understanding of what to do next. The session may be mostly yoga, bodywork, evaluation... it depends on the situation.
