Friday, June 29 (6-9pm) Credit Hours: 3 Philosophy, Lifestyle and Ethics
*Introduction of Ayurveda:
~What is ayurveda? What is the definition of health according to ayurveda?
~Ama and Agni concept
~What is purpose of yoga? What is purpose of ayurveda?
~Ayurveda and Yoga are sister sciences.
*What is your body type
~Five elements: The whole Universe resides in the body in the form of 5 elements, and so are we, being a part of the macrocosm.
~Three doshas: Vata, Pitta, Kapha; give an example of each dosha when in balance and out of balance. (using a questionnaire or questions in the class)
Take a questionnaire home and go over it determining their Prakruti (the body constitution that they were born with) and Vikruti--the current imbalance. These will give students an idea what imbalances they have so they can help themselves with specific asanas as we go along.
Practical experience:
Yoga and 5 elements: doing asanas with the awareness of the 5 elements

*Tri guna (=attributes): sattva, rajas, and tamas and their relationship with the mind
*20 gunas of Vata, Pitta, Kapha and their manifestation in the mind/body paradigm

Vata Dosha:
Attributes; Organs and Main Sites; Sub-doshas; Balances and Imbalances; Age; Time; Season.
Practical application: Vata balancing asanas, pranayama, and meditation and their benefits.
We can include a specific routine for those who have rheumatism, arthritis, high blood pressure, heart problems or any conditions where vigorous physical movement is not advised. This series is a subtle way of exercising yet profound in the way that it loosens the joints and gently releases muscular tensions.
Restorative asanas for Vata
(can include asanas for moon cycle disorders; lower back pain; for insomnia, anxiety).
Pitta Dosha:
Attributes; Organs and Main Sites; Sub-doshas; Balances and Imbalances; Age; Time; Season.
Practical application: Pitta balancing asanas, pranayama, and meditation and their benefits.
~Introducing the Moon Salutation
Digestive and abdominal series which is excellent for releasing excess pitta as well as good for anyone with indigestion, constipation, acidity, disorders of male and female reproductive system.
Restorative asanas for Pitta
Sunday July 1 (9am -12pm, 1-3pm)
Credit Hours: 0.5 Methods, 1.5 Philosophy, Lifestyle and Ethics, 3 Techniques
Kapha Dosha:Attributes, Organs and Main sites; Sub-doshas; Balances and Imbalances; Age; Time; Season.
Practical Application: Kapha balancing asanas, pranayama, and meditation and their benefits.
Introducing the Energy block postures-a series of dynamic postures where the neuro-muscular knots are broken down and thereby improving the energy within the body. This is good for the spine, lungs, heart and endocrine function.
Restorative asanas for Kapha
Therapeutics:
*Therapeutic use of asana for balancing vata disorders such as backache, sciatica, constipation, insomnia.
*Therapeutic use of asana for balancing pitta disorders such as high blood pressure, liver disorders, malabsorption, migraine headache
*Therapeutic use of asana for balancing kapha disorders such as asthma, obesity, thyroid condition.
