Workshops in 2004

Below are the training events for this calendar year. As always, you should choose the workshops that you feel are most important to developing and extending your competence as a yoga teacher and omit any that appear repetitious or inappropriate for your growth. Workshops are open to all students except where noted.

February 20-22, 2004 - Monica Voss ~ Exploring the Wave ~

Monica's warm-hearted, yet clear and focused teaching style inspires all of us. Monica studied for many years with Vanda Scaravelli, famed Italian yoga teacher and author of Awakening the Spine. For over twenty years Monica has taught at the Esther Myers Studio in Toronto. She conducts frequent teacher trainings in Canada, England and the U.S. helping teachers to incorporate the principles of Vanda Scaravelli's style of yoga into their teaching.

 

April 4, 2004 ~ Foundations of Pranayama ~ Antonin Nenov

Join Tony for an exploration of the principles and practice of yogic breathing. This session is open to all students. 1-6 pm at the TreeHouse. This session will include: Anatomy and philosophy of pranayama, Asana practice, Breathing techniques, Preparatory asanas for pranayama, Pranayama techniques.

May 2, 2004 - Teaching Basics: Sun Salutations - Kimberly Carson

In this workshop, you will learn how to teach traditional sun salutations as the core of a class. Each posture of the salutation will be explored including appropriate warm-ups, modifications, assists and precautions. You will also learn the basic structure of a yoga class and how the tone you set impacts the experience of the students. You will be introduced to techniques for teaching pranayama and final relaxation approaches.

June 18-20, 2004 - Ayurveda and Yoga ~ Vasanta Lidanova

Ayurveda and yoga are ancient sister sciences that developed and work together, mutually enhancing their benefits on every aspect of the human being. Ayurveda-the science of life--covers all aspects of health and well-being through the understanding of each individual's unique body constitution. Ayurveda restores health and balance with the help of lifestyle, diet, herbs, yoga asanas and meditation.

July 23-25, 2004 - Teaching: Principles and Methods ~ Monica Voss

Join us for an in-depth exploration of principles and methods of teaching Hatha Yoga. This workshop will include (but is not limited to :-) how to work with mixed level groups and beginning students, cautions and counterindications, modifications, working with hands-on adjustments, Ethics in teaching and preparatory sequencing for advanced postures including inversions and backbends. This workshop is open to teachers and teachers-in-training.

August 29, 2004 - Ayurvedic Cooking ~ Vasanta Lidanova

In this workshop you are invited to learn how to improve your digestion and absorption of food suitable for your individual body constitution (dosha); how improper kinds of food and incompatible food combinations adversely affect your system. You will also learn about the six tastes and how they relate to the doshas; and how to make use of spices as a healing power for different organs in the body.

November 5-7, 2004 - Meditation & Yoga Retreat with Kim Carson at Chinsegut Hill. Deposit Due by October 21st

November 14, 2004 - Shoulder Openers with Vasanta - at the TreeHouse 2-5pm Info

November 21, 2004 - Teacher Training Peer Session ~ How to Teach Shavasana ~ 4-6:30pm at the TreeHouse (YTT students only)

December 5, 2004 - Deepening Your Personal Practice ~ Antonin Nenov (bio) at the TreeHouse 12-4:30pm Cost: $60

This workshop will focus on self practice as a means for personal integration. The central theme will revolve around the question: Why do we practice? Various methods for self practice will be accented. We will practice asana, pranayama, chanting and meditation. There will be reflection and chanting on some related excerpts from the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.

December 31, 2004 - Om in the New Year CELEBRATION! Kirtan 9-11, Om Circle and Party 'til ??? Among our guest musicians will be kirtan co-facilitator Bob Yehling (who played kirtan at Treehouse between 1995 and 2000), Iana Lahi, Doug Travers, Ellie Daulton & Tom Savino. Please bring healthy food to share and whatever you wish to drink. Come enjoy a different kind of New Year's Eve…
